Personal Statement

Vast experience in leading and managing R&D-heavy aerospace projects involving space mission design, concept assessment, systems engineering and multidisciplinary analysis and optimisation. Having worked for 10+ years in aerospace engineering, I took part in most private space projects in Russia, and co-founded a European electric propulsion startup.

2021 - present

Private Russian initiative to create a telecom megaconstellation for global internet access. Owned by a consortium of Russian corporations and banks, it has kicked off with $100M USD initial investments.

Position: Chief Systems Architect, Head of Department (C-level minus 1)

Project: low-orbit satellite data transmission system.

Stage: successfully tested homemade components for a demo satellite and conducted a deep model-based conceptual analysis of the space-based telecom service. Successful demo launch Jun’23

  • Formed and led team of engineers and developers (10 to 35 on various stages)
  • Led development (from scratch) of a toolkit for global multidisciplinary analysis and optimization of a space-based telecom system and implemented it in concept studies for a telecom megaconstellation
  • Prepared investment presentation and pitches, took part in initiating the design office operations

Achievements:

  • Implemented the Agile framework for software development in an otherwise a math research team which led to the boost in efficiency and sustainability of the developed software

Avant Space Systems LLC

2017 - 2020

Avant Space is a Russian aerospace startup specializing in electric propulsion technologies. As of 2023, its flagship project is a small satellite swarm equipped with lasers visible from Earth used to display simple images in the sky for advertising or emergency awareness 

Position: Lead Engineer

Activity: feasibility studies for various projects of the company

  • Started and led a study on an opportunity to start a satellite launch service on Russian converted rockets
  • Conducted trajectory analysis for the space advertising project
  • Conducted a concept study for an electric propulsion system in order to define the product
  • Prepared and designed pitch decks / presentation materials

Achievements:

  • Concept study for the ion thruster project used to secure investments for the kick-off stage
  • Pitched and presented the ion thruster project internationally (including ESA startups session at IAC 2018)

Sputnix Ltd

2017, 2019 - 2020

SPUTNIX LLC is a Russian private company manufacturing high-tech satellite components and technologies as well as satellite-based services. Its pilot project was TabletSat-Aurora, the first Russian satellite made and launched by a private company

Position: Engineer (2017), Contractor (2019 - 2020)

Projects: IoT smallsat network, small satellite test bench

  • Conducted a concept study for an IoT constellation
  • On a different occasion, as a contractor, led the development of a software toolkit providing basic system modelling capabilities for a multi-functional small satellite test bench

Achievements:

  • Led a concept study on a telecom constellation for IoT: Proof of Concept stage completed
  • Led a software development project for a testing complex for small satellites, contract successfully completed

Yaliny Engineering

2014 - 2016

Yaliny (based in Hong Kong and Moscow) made an early attempt to create a megaconstellation project. Raising about $10 million, it developed a coherent concept study of a 510-satellite constellation for providing a voice service and 1 Mbit data connection for 40M users worldwide.

Position: Engineer, Lead Analysis Engineer

Project: global telecom satellite network

  • Developed a simulation toolkit for estimating crucial mission parameters of a telecommunication network
  • Prepared materials for publishing and attracting further investments

Achievements:

  • Led the development of a software product for telecom satellite constellation complex simulation, which allowed to attract additional investments
  • Conducted a full early-stage mission analysis for telecom constellation
  • Presented and pitched the project at various events, including venture workshops and conferences (IAC 2015, 2016)
